Before the Picnic/Meeting started at noon, we had our 3rd annual 5K & 1K Fun Runs. Thanks to great coordination by Kelli Elliott and Damian Medina (2 of our current AHIA board members) all went well and finished in time for our noon picnic check-in and voting for new board members for AHIA the year beginning September. ¬†This year's 5K winner was Scott Gorzeman with a time of 21:46.

DJ Carmine and his wife provided music and, back by popular demand, Marco the balloon man, Rich the ice-shaver and our favorite face artist joined us once again. Train rides and Station 14's fire truck were enjoyed by kids up to the age of 93. Virginia Russell living on Haines, once again won the princess of the seniors contest and received her $94 in Farmer's Market Dollars.

This year's Longest-in-Area Resident of Alamitos Heights was Patricia Webb who lives on the 300 block of Panama. Having lived there since 1949 earned her $63 to spend at our Wednesday Farmer's Market. And this year, two very deserving Pioneer Awards were awarded to Bill and Shirley Thomas who live on the 600 block of Winslow. Both of whom have held various position on the AHIA Board of Directors and who continue to work to improve our community.

Our 2012 Service Award was bestowed on Julie Maleki Nagle for her support, hard work and exceptional service that she has given the Alamitos Heights residents for the past 10 years as Long Beach's 3rd District Field Analyst.

A Picnic is never complete without a great barbeque. So for the 4th year in a row we were able to have our favorite caterer to provide the best hot dogs and hamburgers roasted over a hickory fire pit. We also had several raffle prizes for lucky residents including gift cards to Jamba Juice, Sees Candy, Starbucks, and Best Buy, as well as Musical Theatre West Tickets and Farmers Market Dollars.
